Anthem Song Without Lyrics, Is That Possible?

National anthem is one of the important things for every country in the world. Indonesia also has a national anthem, namely Indonesia Raya. There is also a country that is famous for being the shortest national anthem in the world, Japan, and Greece is known as the owner of the longest national anthem in the world, so what is equally unique comes from Spain which turns out that the national anthem has no lyrics, how come?

Determination of the national anthem is indeed a quite complicated thing in this matador country. Yes, Spain is indeed famous for its unique national anthem which has no words or no lyrics. If you pay attention to some grand events such as the Olympics, then you will hear a national anthem from Spain that is only a musical chant.Actually the Spanish national anthem has been around since 1761.

When it was first introduced the national anthem was titled La Marcha Grananedera, but due to the change of leadership in the country, King Carlos III also changed the national anthem to Marcha Real. This change of title was also followed by the replacement of lyrics as was desired by the country's leaders. Not yet finished the reign of King Carlos, a great war in Europe ensued which led King Carlos to step down and the Spanish national anthem was changed to El Himno de Riego during the years 1931-1939.

After 1939, the Spanish ruler was in the hands of Franco, who finally did the same thing as King Carlos, namely returning the national anthem, such as during King Carlos's reign by changing the title to La Marcha Grananedera. Franco came to power until 1975 and after he abdicated, the controversy over the national anthem again occurred which made the next government decide to remove the lyrics of the national anthem. Spain officially did not have lyrics for its national anthem in 1978.In fact, in 2007 the government held a contest for the election of the national anthem won by Paulino Cubero. Cubero is a citizen from Madrid.

However, the lyrics of the Cubero song were not accepted by the public and some council members. Protests ensued which made the government withdraw the lyrics which only lasted a few days. After the case, to this day the Spanish government has decided to use the national anthem which has no lyrics.
Very unique? It means Spanish citizens don't have to memorize national song lyrics like any other country.
